Arabic Varieties On Offer

Engage in Palestine offers a comprehensive selection of Arabic varieties for our One-On-One Private Arabic Courses, including Modern Standard Arabic (MSA), Classical Arabic, and various colloquial dialects such as Palestinian and Levantine (Ammiya). Additionally, students have the option to combine different Arabic varieties, such as blending MSA with Palestinian Arabic, into their tailored program.

We offer courses across six proficiency levels: Beginner, Elementary Levels 1 and 2, Intermediate Levels 1 and 2, and Advanced. Students can also choose the intensity of their studies, whether they prefer a non-intensive, intensive, or super-intensive course structure, based on their personal goals and availability.

Choosing The Right Arabic: MSA, Classical, or Colloquial?

Arabic, as many know, is an incredibly diverse language with numerous dialects and subdialects. Before choosing their desired variety of Arabic, we recommend students consider how they intend to use the language and for what future purposes they might need it. For example, those who wish to use Arabic in professional settings will probably find the formal Modern Standard Arabic most beneficial to their goals. Those with an interest in history who intend to decipher primary source materials such as religious and literary texts should probably study Classical Arabic. And finally, those wishing to use Arabic to converse in everyday settings as they travel throughout the region should focus on learning the spoken Palestinian or Levantine dialects.

For prospective students unsure about which style of Arabic is most suitable for their situation, feel free to reach out to us at Engage in Palestine. We are more than happy to assist students in finding the course that’s right for them.

Arabic Varieties Available in Our One-On-One Private Arabic Courses:

  • Modern Standard Arabic (MSA)
  • Classical Arabic

  • Colloquial Levantine Arabic (Ammiya dialect)
  • Combination of two varieties

Course Levels On Offer

No matter your experience level, Engage in Palestine has a variety of Arabic language levels available, in addition to our non-intensive, intensive, and super intensive tracts.

1. Beginner

The Beginner Arabic course is designed for students with absolutely no previous Arabic language experience of any kind. This course will introduce students to basic concepts including the Arabic alphabet, writing systems, grammar fundamentals, phonetics, and common vocabulary and phrases. The Beginner Arabic course will create a strong, linguistic foundation from which students may leap into the diversity and complexity of the Arabic language.

2. Elementary Level 1

This Arabic course is intended to continue where the previous course left off, building on students’ foundational Arabic language knowledge. This entails the introduction of new vocabulary and slightly more complex grammatical rules into the curriculum, as well as regular reading, writing, and speaking exercises. Upon the completion of this course, students will be able to converse, read, and write about elementary subjects such as shopping, asking for directions, and expressing preferences.

3. Elementary Level 2

This Arabic immersion course will take the subjects addressed in the Elementary Level 1 course and build on the curricula, expanding into more intricate territory. Generally speaking, this course will diversify vocabulary even further and expand on topics introduced in the previous level. However, the Level 2 course will still focus predominantly on elementary subjects while easing into more complex grammar.

4. Intermediate Level 1

This Arabic intermediate course will introduce students into a more immersive curriculum than the previous levels; this will entail venturing into the Palestinian community of Hebron in order to communicate with native speakers and complete everyday tasks. For example, students may be instructed to purchase items from a Palestinian market, order from a restaurant, discuss preferences about a certain topic, or other colloquial activities. Students will also be introduced to subjects in class which touch upon specific issues such as culture, art, and politics, and will learn the vocabulary needed to further converse about these topics in a concise and well-informed manner.

5. Intermediate Level 2

This Arabic course level is intended for those possessing an extensive Arabic vocabulary applicable to a wide range of topics and are seeking further immersion in Arabic.  Subsequently, this course level will focus mostly on comprehension in the context of listening, writing, reading, and speaking. This will entail the practical application of Arabic, such as venturing into the Palestinian community of Hebron and interacting with shop keepers and other locals.

6. Advanced

This Arabic immersion course will combine all the previous courses’ curriculums, maintaining the immersive nature of the Intermediate levels while also expanding into complex reading, writing, and spoken materials. Additionally, students will conduct research in the community of Hebron on a variety of subjects. With all these methods and materials combined, students will be able to establish a firm understanding and grammatical competency of whichever variety of Arabic they have decided to pursue. Upon completion of this course students will be able to articulate their thoughts and opinions over complex matters such as politics, history, the environment, and the arts of Palestine.

Course Intensities On Offer

OuOur One-on-One Private Arabic Courses offer flexible intensity options to match your learning goals and schedule. Please note that course intensity refers to the frequency of classes, the level of immersion, and the amount of assigned homework, rather than the course level itself.

Below, you will find detailed information on the number of Arabic hours and the various intensity options available for both in-person and online lessons:

  • Non-Intensive Arabic: 4 hours per day, 3 days a week
  • Intensive Arabic: 4 hours per day, 5 days a week
  • Super-Intensive Arabic: 6 hours per day, 5 days a week

These flexible options allow you to customize your learning experience according to your personal preferences and goals. Whether you are looking for a more relaxed pace or seeking an accelerated program, we are happy to accommodate your needs

Which Course is for Me?

If you’re unsure which course to enroll in, we offer a free placement test to assess your Arabic language skills in four key areas: speaking, reading, writing, and listening. We’re happy to provide guidance on course levels or intensity to help you make the best choice.
