Academic Information
Students in these Intensive Language Programs carry a 4 credit hour course load per session (4 weeks). All intensive courses are taught in Arabic and English, combining spoken Levantine Arabic (Shami or Ammiyya dialect) with MSA in a way that reflects the use of the language by educated native speakers.
TO PUT IT SIMPLY:
- Summer = 9 weeks = 8 credit hours = 1 full year of study at the university level
- Winter = 4 weeks = 4 credit hours = 1 semester of study at the university level

Summer 2024 Intensive Language & Area Studies Program
During the summer, students have the option of enrolling for a single session (4 weeks) or the full summer quarter (9 weeks). The full summer is the equivalent of one year of language study at the university level, and each session equates to one semester.

One-Week Arabic Programs
These intensive Arabic programs cater to learners with limited time, aiming to maximize the benefits during their stay. Whether acquiring new language skills or improving existing ones, you can enroll for one or two consecutive weeks. The one-week intensive Arabic programs are available year-round, including spring, summer, fall, and winter.
Arabic learners can opt to study:
- Modern Standard Arabic (MSA).
- Palestinian Colloquial Arabic (Ammiyya daielct)
- Levantine (Shami) Arabic
- Mixed Program: (Modern Standard & Colloquial Arabic).
